Beach Volleyball is very popular in Rio. There are literally hundreds poles stuck on the beach sand to accommodate volleyball nets. They are also used for foot-volley.

Official beach volleyball competitions happen both in Ipanema and Copacabana. Brazil has a tradition in the sport, and we have already brought home several medals. Famous players like Sandra and Jackie Silva, gold medal winners in the Atlanta Olympics, are often seen training in Ipanema or Leblon.

You can take beach volleyball lessons at one of the many schools along Ipanema Beach. Classes are usually held in the morning, end around 11 or noon, when the sun gets too hot. They may resume later in the afternoon. To join locals at a match, all you have to do is ask!
