The Municipal Theater is a real gem, and it deserves a few minutes of
your time. Walk around the building and pay attention to the details, like
the beautiful box offices, staircase, marble floors, and dozens of statues
inside and outside. Do not miss the chance of watching a classical
perfomance, opera, or ballet at the Municipal. |
| Palacio Pedro Ernesto around Cinelândia is
the headquarters of the City Council. There's always something happening
below, and many people never pay attention to the two beautiful pulpits
above. |

One of the clocks keeps track of time, and
the other of the days of the month. The palace is currently under
renovations, and we hope to see it shine in all its glory pretty soon. The
building next door, famous for Cafe Amarelinho on the ground floor, is
also being completely renovated inside, while the façade is being
carefully restored. |

There are many historical churches Downtown. They are
adorned with beautiful images in carved wood, original Portuguese
tilework, and lots of details in gold leaf. Take your time, stop and
meditate in the peaceful atmosphere. |
