Downtown is Rio's most traditional shopping area. The
spot known as Saara, around Rua da Alfândega, is a
bargain paradise. Dozens of shops sell discount clothing,
party supplies, fabrics, shoes, you name it. Many of the
stores are stationed in sobrados, two-story
houses of historical importance. |

Casa Turunais one of the
mandatory stops. This is where you find everything
Carnival, from wigs to ready-to-wear costumes,
accessories, fabrics, boas, leis, streamers, confetti,
theatrical make-up, and anything else you can imagine.
This is a business that has been around for over a
century! |

If
you are a little taller than usual you will have to
keep your head down - the ceiling is covered with masks,
boas, and other hangable items. |
