Skimboarding
is another beach sport that is popular at Ipanema Beach,
especially with the teen crowd. This is not the best way to
become popular on a crowded beach, so it's usually practiced
on weekdays. You wait for the surf to break, and when it is
receding you throw the flat board on the thin layer of
water, and try to go for a ride. It usually ends up with a
big wipe out, it's just part of the fun! |
Bodyboarding
or morey-boogeying is more similar to surfing.
You do not stand on the board to ride the wave, though. It
is somewhat easier for the beginner, yet it allows radical
moves like 360º turns, flips, it's loads of fun. A lot of
people like to wear one fin on one foot. The extra speed
makes it easier to catch the wave. It's a good idea to wear
the strap, to keep the board close to you at all times.
Skimboards and bodyboards are easy to find at local surf
shops. |
