Beach
tennis or
frescobol, as Cariocas call it, is more
popular on off-season weekdays than on crowded summer
weekends. Even though players stay near each other, the game
can be very fast and nobody appreciates being hit by a
speeding ball...
Players do not keep track of points, the idea is
basically to keep the ball from falling on the sand (or in
the sea) for as long as you can. The best spot to practice
is near the sea, this way you don't miss the parade
of beauties passing back and forth. Later in the
afternoon or earlier in the morning are the best hours to
play, when it's not so hot. You can buy a set of rackets and
a ball at one of the sports shops, and even at some bikini
boutiques.
