Watching the fireworks from above
does have its advantages. The ocean of 2
million people competes with the
neverending showers, cascades and other
fireworks delights. The only drawback is
if you have to fight for window space
with other people in your party. |
Watching the fireworks from below is the other way to
go. You can pick a spot on the sand, or on the streets
(closed to traffic). In addition to the feeling of
freedom and togetherness, you will get a very special
view to Copacabana's skyline. All hotels and buildings
along the beach have their lights on, each with a
different party happening at the same time. Additionally,
many apartments and balconies are decorated with lights,
a tradition the city encourages by giving awards to the
most creative displays. |

The fishermen's corner on Posto 6 is near Forte de
Copacabana and Arpoador. It is a great spot to stay
because of the romantic surroundings. You will have a
prime view to the fireworks cascades at Le Meridién, and
Pedra do Leme. You are too near to appreciate the cascade
at Forte de Copacabana in all its glory, though. |
All beach kiosks are open, so you do not have to
worry about snacks and refreshments. If you want to go
for something more sophisticated, bring a bottle of
chilled champange, and a couple of glasses. Even if you
are alone, we are sure you will find someone to offer a
sip. |

All beachside hotels offer buffet dinners, and some
are very sophisticated. There may be live music, and
dancing. Prices are not for everyone - some invites run
as high as US$1,000 per person! Restaurants may be a more
reasonably priced alternative, especially if they are a
little farther away from the beach. |
