On Sundays in Rio the beach lane is open for pedestrians only -
from
Leblon all the way to
Leme.
The street becomes a big promenade, it's a chance for you to see
all tribes together. Cyclists, bladers and skaters share the space
with families, young couples, groups of boys, girls, people with
dogs, locals, visitors, everybody is welcome.
You
could easily cover all the way from Leblon to Ipanema and find out
why Cariocas are in a
permanent love affair with the city. Stop every now and then to
watch a roda de capoeira, a volleyball, beach soccer, or foot-volley match, try some of the junk food they sell at the kiosks. If
you're looking for souvenirs to friends, stop at the Hippie
Fair before you head back to your hotel.

If you're lucky there may be a band or two along the way
playing live music. It could be anything from Bossa Nova to Jazz,
or just some guys with drums improvising a batucada.
Savor the scenery, breathe the salty air, and think how happy you
would be to become a Carioca yourself one day.
