On Carnival Saturday the Sambodrome is stage to the Parade of Access Schools of Group A. These are the samba schools that are trying to be promoted or return to the Special Group - the big-leaguers that march on Carnival Sunday and Monday. As tickets are much cheaper, this is a wonderful opportunity to enjoy the live show without spending a fortune.
Access Group Samba Schools also offer lower-priced costumes, and you will march to an enthusiastic audience that stand up and sing along as you pass by. The show is broadcast by TV Bandeirantes, an open channel. Even if you have other plans you can leave the TV on while you dress up.
Travelers on a tighter budget should keep in mind that the Children's Parade happens on Carnival Friday and it's free. And on Carnival Tuesday Access Schools from Group B will have their turn to try to climb their way up to Group A.
