Floats are populated by floatees (destaques). Their costumes are the most luxurious and expensive. Some are so heavy that they have to be attached to the structure. For contrast, other floats come chock-full of semi-naked beauties. Despite the luxurious appearance, floats are made from everyday materials. Most sculptures are made in Styrofoam. Plastic, straw, cardboard, are among the most common choices. The structures are always made in metal, though, as floats are very heavy. Special effects may include foam bubbles, smoke, fans blowing confetti, etc.
