Carnival 2010 has already officially begun with the first parade of Banda de Ipanema this Saturday (January 30). The party was fabulous, and although the host of drag queens that populate the band was not yet at full blast, they were still there to add some color to the fun.
This year the T-shirt of the Banda was designed by nobody else than Niemeyer, the renowned architect that designed the Brazilian capital of Brasilia. He is over 100 years old now, but the age doesn't cound when the soul is still young. Our kudos to his work! As you will see in the photos, there were people of all age groups, sexual orientations, and costumes went from a simple bathing suit to a glamorous silver dress dotted with sequins and rhinestones. You can take your pic (sorry for the pun). With the new directives set by the Town Hall, there were fewer beer vendors blocking the way of revelers, and finally the number of chemical toilets was acceptable considering the number of people in the streets. We count on your presence for the next parades on Carnival Saturday and Tuesday. See you soon!
