Get me the heck out of here!
There are cranes to take people up and down from their perches on the taller floats. The destaque position is not for the weak
at heart, as floats shake a lot when everybody else is doing the samba
like crazy right under your feet. Bigger shoulder pieces are usually
attached to the float, to avoid accidents (destaques sometimes tumbled
over before this became commonplace). |
Most sculptures you see on floats are made of foam, and plastic. They
also use lots of mirrored glass bits to better reflect the light.
Sometimes small pieces break and fall off. Marching on the avenue without
your shoes on is a guaranteed way to end your night in the hospital. |
