The first parade of Banda de Ipanema for Carnival 2008 happened as planned on Saturday, January 19.
What may not have been planned – at least by revelers – was the pouring rain that started just as the Banda was reaching Av. Vieira Souto.
We arrived in time to watch Isabelita dos Patins open her Spanish fan to cover her face and take the first taxi back to dryland – before the make-up started to melt.
Other well-known Banda characters like Sandra Helena, Milita Namour and the Carmen Miranda Bag Lady were all there. So were hundreds of other partiers that oblivious to the storm danced the night away!
