Bromeliads are very important plants to the eco-system. They tend to accumulate rain-water, and thus each bromeliad becomes a microcosm of life. Among other insects, the infamous Aedis Egyptus mosquito sometimes uses them to lay its eggs. As this is the mosquito that transmits dengue (break-bone) fever, each individual bromeliad has to be treated in the summer. |
